1919 – 2012

Rosa Helen Maninga, age 92 of Menahga, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, Minnesota surrounded by her loved ones.
Rosa was born on December 6, 1919 in Runeberg Township of Becker County, west of Menahga, Minnesota to Gust and Elma (White) Arola.  Rosa attended country school near her home and grew into womanhood in the Green Valley Township area. In September of 1936 she was united in marriage to Eddie Maninga in Green Valley Township. This union was blessed with four children:  June, Eddie Jr., Mildred and Don. She devoted her life to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will long be remembered for her delicious Mojakka and homemade Finnish flat bread. In addition to caring for her family, Rosa worked along side her husband on the farm, milking the cows, caring for the baby calves and working long hours in the fields raising the crops needed to feed their herd. Rosa was a long time member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church. In her quiet time, Rosa enjoyed crocheting many gifts for her family and friends. Above all, Rosa devoted her life to her children and grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.

She will be lovingly remembered by her four children: June (Marvin) Nelmark of Frazee, Eddie Jr. (Ida) Maninga of Menahga, Mildred (Floyd) Weappa of Brett, and Don (Judy) Maninga of Menahga; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters:  Hazel Camp of Menahga, Theresa Lindula of Virginia, and Ellen (Kenny) Johnson of Vancouver, Washington as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie; step-grandson, Benjamin Stavseth; her parents; 7 sisters and 1 brother.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at The Menahga Assembly of God Church in Menahga, with Pastors Bob Smith and Dennis Hannu officiating. Special music will be “Where the Roses Never Fade,” “Suppertime,” “Jesus Signed My Pardon” and “In the Great Triumphant Morning.” Honorary casketbearers will be: Taryn Schultz, Randa Mattila, Jane Urvig, Dustie Bakke, Spring Bungert and Darcie Orlando. The active casketbears will be: Todd Nelmark, Troy Nelmark, Tate Nelmark, Tad Nelmark, Scott Weappa, Peter Maninga, Boyd Maninga and Don Maninga, Jr. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
