Dick Kyro

 

1942-2017

A Memorial Service will be held for Richard Kyro, age 75, of Menahga, Minnesota on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Park Rapids, at 11 a.m. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to service.

Richard (Dick) Allen Kyro was born on January 28, 1942 on the family farm in Paddock Township, Minnesota. He was one of thirteen children born to John Kyro and Ruth (Keksi) Kyro. Dick was baptized and confirmed in the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Runeberg Township. Dick attended country school through 8th grade and continued his education at Sebeka High School, where he excelled in athletics and graduated in 1960.

Dick entered the Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1963. In 1967, he was united in marriage to Roxanne Johnson. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Missy and Greg.  In 1990, Dick was united in marriage to Judy Masters. After being discharged from the service, he lived in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and from there to Ft. Wayne, Indiana and finally to Park Rapids. He began his career in the manufacturing industry and spent most of his working years as a manufacturing engineer, followed by years in transportation as a school bus and truck driver.

Dick had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed running and participated in several marathons. He then switched to bicycling following knee replacement surgery. He was passionate about flying and built his own plane. He tremendously enjoyed fishing. Dick passed away on Sunday, October 15 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga at 75 years of age.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Tony) Johnson; three grandchildren; 10 siblings: Don Kyro of Brainerd, Marion (John) Gerlach of Richfield, Dorothy (Dan) Dutcher of St. Francis, Wayne (Patty) Kyro of Sebeka, Jean (Stan) Ament of Sebeka, Rod (Janine) Kyro of Minneapolis, Joyce (John) Moreau of Manchester, New Hamphshire, Betty (Greg) Greenwaldt of Bertha, Bev (Jeff) Van Baalen of Hibbing, David Kyro and Ann of Frazee; brother-in-law Jerry Steele of Hutchinson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Greg Kyro; parents John and Ruth; brother Roger Kyro and his sister Kathy Steele.
