Allen Nichols

1936-2018

Allen K. Nichols, 81 of Rochester and Nevis, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Rochester.

Allen was born on March 22, 1936 in Hope, North Dakota to Arloine Baker. He graduated from Walker High School in 1954 and from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education in 1960. He went on to get a Master of Arts in Accounting and Business Law in 1964, Master of Education in 1974, and a Doctor of Education in 1977 from the University of North Dakota.

On March 29, 1956 he was united in marriage to Doris Hanson in Washington, DC.

He was a retired Lieutenant Colonial, served in the US Army/Army Reserves for 32 years. He was a public school teacher for seven years, Job Corps administrator for two years and college teacher for 17 years. He went on to become provost of Northland Community College in Thief River Falls for five years, Campus Director of Gladsen State College in Gladsen, Alabama for three years, and Dean of Instruction, High Community College, Highland, Kansas for four years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris; three children: Linda (Rob) Romocki, Beth (Mike) Schmitt, and Rodney (LeAnn) Nichols; eight grandchildren: Seth Romocki, Trista Romocki, Luke Romocki, Brandon Schmitt, Bryce Schmitt, Ian Nichols, Monika Nichols and Josie Nichols; one great-grandchild, Kora Schmitt; his brother, Kenneth (Deanna) Nichols; his sister, Sheri (Gary) Gunderson, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arloine and Claude Nichols.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 2 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be held at Resthaven Cemetery at Nevis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Allen’s name to Hope Lodge, 411 2nd Street NW, Rochester, MN 55901.
