Stephen Sliger
1953-2018
Stephen (Steve) Houston Sliger was born on January 11, 1953, in Portland, Oregon. His parents, Floyd and Ila (Burrell) Sliger, were thrilled to bring Steve home with his twin sister, Carol.
Steve graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1971. He attended Portland State University where he majored in Metallurgy/Materials Science. He taught Metallurgy at Western Nevada Community College. He was an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout troop leader.
He enjoyed a career in the Investment Casting Industry for over 30 years. Throughout his lengthy career he worked for several prominent companies as Director of Engineering, Engineering Manager, Technical Director, and Metallurgical and Materials Manager. Well known in the industry for his foundry knowledge and expertise, his career took him to several states and travel internationally.
Steve married Gwenny (Jacobson) on January 13, 2007, in Reno, Nevada. They lived in Rancho Cucamonga, Long Beach and La Verne, California; Dallas, Texas; and Amherst, New Hampshire.
Active in the churches he attended, he was President of the church council at Trinity Lutheran in Long Beach and served as an usher and altar guild member at Christ Lutheran in Dallas.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hiking. He was an avid book reader and enjoyed solving puzzles. Cooking was a hobby of his, and everyone loved his special dishes. He loved exploring new places and meeting new friends. He loved to share stories and jokes with his friends.
Steve passed away on June 25, 2018, at Pomona Valley Hospital. He is greatly missed by his wife, Gwen; his two children, Sam Sliger and Corrie Anne Sliger; his twin sister, Carol Hahn; and niece, Kristin Berg. Other family members who wjll miss him include Lauretta Jacobson, Cannen Liberkowski, Cassie Liberkowski, and his dog, Louis II. He also leaves behind many caring family members and special friends who were very important to him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ila.
