Richard Tharalson

1943-2018

Richard “Dick” Tharalson, 75, of Park Rapids passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Walker Rehabilitation Center in Walker, Minnesota.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 15 at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Nevis. A celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 16 at the Bethany Lutheran Church of Nevis, with visitation one hour prior.

Dick was born May 10, 1943 to Clifford and Dorothy (Montgomery) Tharalson in Cannon Falls. He attended high school in Cannon Falls and began his career as a mechanic in Redwing.
On October 28, 1961 he married, Bonnie Holmes at the Vasa Village Church and together raised their three children.

After some time in St. Paul, they moved to Park Rapids in 1978. Dick worked at Kostal Ford for a number of years, started his own business on Highway 71, north of Park Rapids, and eventually moved his shop to his home on Blue Lake until his retirement. After retiring, he continued to putter in the shop as long as he was able.

Dick enjoyed working on cars, snowmobiles and anything with an engine. He was a hard worker, but found time for fishing, hunting and family. He loved his life on the lake with the grandkids. Tubing, pulling skiers and pontoon rides were what he held dear to him with family by his side. Many memories were made on the lake, and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie; children: Gary (Melanie) Tharalson, Jeff (Jennifer) Tharalson, and Tammy (Ben) Ott; grandchildren: Lindsey (Bryan Ridgley) Tharalson, Danielle (Tyler Boyda) Tharalson, Jeromy (Ashley Winzig) Tharalson, Kirsten Tharalson, Tyler Ott, Brennyn Ott, Joe Moore, Jeffrey Thomas Tharalson, and Jocelyn Tharalson; great-grandchildren: Sophia Ridgley, Ethan Ridgley, Maci Boyda, Maya Kanke-Goss; siblings: Shirley (Wayne) Christenson, Bob (Mary) Tharalson, and Bill (Linda) Tharalson.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother and brother, Tom.
