Nora Wright
1917-2018
Nora Elizabeth Wright, age 101 died at her home at Sunrise Senior Living in Roseville, Minnesota on December 6, 2018. Nora was born February 26, 1917 in Sebeka, to Arthur Mattie and Hulda Mattie, Nora spent her childhood on a farm west of Sebeka and graduated from Sebeka High School in 1934. Nora had two sisters, Helen Bergman and Lila McIntyre. She worked as a nanny while attending business school in St. Cloud.
In 1940 she married Dale M. Wright, who died in 2015. Nora and Dale started their family on a small farm near Sebeka where Nora managed the farm and raised their children. She also was a leader of the Blowers 4-H Club, a member of the Homemakers Club and sang in the choir of Sebeka Methodist Church.
Nora and Dale moved the family to Worthington in 1955 where Dale worked as a District Manager for State Farm Insurance. Nora ran the insurance office in their home and participated in the Worthington Methodist Church.
In Shoreview, all of their children graduated high school and went on to higher education. There they maintained and cherished relationships with extended family, neighbors, and close friends for decades. Nora and Dale traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Nova Scotia, Morocco, to Europe several times including multiple trips to Finland to visit relatives at the Mattie family farm north of the Arctic Circle.
Everywhere Nora lived she nurtured beautiful flower gardens as she nurtured her large family of eight children, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She will be forever remembered for her strength, her humility and her genuine interest in and love for everyone around her.
A memorial service celebrating Nora’s life will be held June 7 in the Twin Cities at a location to be announced.
