Beverly Barnum

1936-2019

Beverly Ann Barnum, 82, of Park Rapids, Minnesota died on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Diamond Willow Assisted Care Center in Park Rapids.

Beverly A. Riethmaier was born on November 20, 1936 in Brainerd, Minnesota the daughter of Emil and Margaret (Taylor) Riethmaier. She lived with her family in: Brainerd; Wisconsin; Spencer, Iowa; Toledo, Ohio; Columbus Grove, Ohio where she graduated from high school; Glencoe; Granite Falls; and Arnold Park, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Orrin “Bud” E. Barnum in Arnolds Park, Iowa in 1961. With Bud’s teaching career they lived in Minneapolis and Jonathan. Following retirement in 1986 they moved to Nevis, and to Park Rapids in 2005.
Bev was a homemaker and raised her eight children and enjoyed her many grandkids and great grandkids.

She loved children, not only her own but she took great joy in foster care and just having children around. Bev enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, camping, and volunteering at the Page School.
She was a longtime active member of the Eastern Star, and also the Nevis Church of Christ.

She is survived by her eight children: David (Mary Lou) Barnum of Nevis, Scott (Melinda) Barnum of Bloomington, Lynn (Steve) Hanson of Delano, Holly (Brad) Finer of Bloomington, Mark (Gilda) Barnum of Columbia Heights, Bruce (Stacy) Barnum of St. Paul, Lance (Jody) Barnum of Park Rapids, and Matthew (Sarah) Barnum of Pine River; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren with one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild expected shortly; and brother, Bill Riethmaier of Hamilton, Ohio.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 26, at 11 a.m. at the Nevis Church of Christ in Nevis. Deacon Daunton Veit will officiate. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be held in the Spring at the Clencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe. In lieu of flowers, Bev’s family suggests memorials may be given to the St. Joseph’s Area Hospice and the Nevis Church of Christ.
