June Yliniemi

1937-2019

June Irene Yliniemi, age 81, of Edina, Minnesota formerly of Osage, peacefully passed from this life to her heavenly home on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Ebenezer York Gardens Assisted Living in Edina, with her loved ones at her side.

June was born on June 18, 1937 in Toad Lake Township of Becker County, to John and Katie (Kippola) Yliniemi. It was in this same area that she attended the District 83 Country School near her parent’s farm through the 8th grade. She then went on to attend and graduate from the Frazee High School. After high school, June worked at the Carlson Bakery in Detroit Lakes for several years. As a young woman, June ventured to Minneapolis where she attended Nursing School. Upon receiving her nursing license, June began a long and fulfilling career in nursing, working at several nursing homes in Minneapolis, including: the Franklin Nursing Home, The Caroline Center and the City of Lakes Care Centers until her retirement. In her spare time June enjoyed raising beautiful flowers into colorful splendor. She also enjoyed traveling and had visited Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Boston, Seattle, Washington and especially enjoyed taking a trip down the Mississippi on the Mississippi Queen River Boat.

June will be lovingly remembered by her two sisters: Dorothy (John) Hudacek of St. Louis Park, and Mardell (Phil) Barlow of Park Rapids, as well as her 19 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Jean; and the rest of her sisters: Shirley, Mayme, Ethelyn and Laila; and her brothers: Reuben and John.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. on Friday, January 25, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman with Rev. Scott Muehlberg officiating. Her nephews: Paul Yliniemi, John Yliniemi, Alan Hudacek, Todd Buelow, Dave Peterson and Kevin Peterson will serve as casket bearers. Interment will be made in the Pickerel Lake Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church Friday morning. Following the service, the Church family will host a luncheon for all in attendance.
