Franklin LaRose, Jr.

1955-2019

Franklin “Doc” William LaRose, Jr. of Bemidji, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on March 29, 2019 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was born in Cass Lake, Minnesota on August 13, 1955 the son of Franklin Sr. and Delores LaRose.

Doc met the love of his life, Cheryl in 1989 and they were married in March of 2011. He was a strong advocate for Indian rights. Doc knew and understood the treaties and sovereignty rights of the MN Chippewa Constitution inside and out. He used this to help other people to understand their rights.

Doc enjoyed the traditional activities in life which included, hunting, harvesting, ricing, fishing, netting, and sugar bushing for maple syrup. He was a legal aid for native rights and later supervisor for the TEP program on the Wood Crew. Doc enjoyed his sports which included boxing, baseball, and football. He was a huge Minnesota sports fan. Doc strongly believed in the good of everyone and he never had a bad thing to say about anyone.

The family that Doc joins again are his wife, Cheryl; parents, Franklin and Delores; grandparents; sister, Roxanne LaRose; children, Tammy and Pierre; grandson, Mahnomen White; and nephew, Daniel Wilson.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his son, Adrian “Guy” White; daughter; Juanita (Clayton) Oothoudt; brothers: Timmy, John and Larry; sister, Paula; special sisters: Carol Blue and Lori “Queenie” Gellings; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A wake for Doc began on Sunday, March 31, continuing until the traditional service held on Tuesday, April 2, all at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake. Spiritual advisor was Ron Winters. Active pallbearers were Clayton Oothoudt, Frank Raisch, Tony LaRose, Chauncey Oothoudt, Raven White, and Rogers Davis, Jr. Alternate pallbearers were Edmund Williams, Jr., and Joseph Briski. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Hanson, Tuffy Fisher, Archie LaRose, Michael LaRose, Michelle LaRose, Darron Wilson-LaRose, Doug and Gerald Butcher, Jeremy Jones, Frank LaRose, Sr., Mish and Winter Cloud and the TEP Wood Crew. Interment will be held in the LaRose family burial grounds in Cass Lake following the service.
