Kathryn Louise Nelson
1943-2019
Kathryn Louise Nelson was born on January 22, 1943 in Straight River Township, Hubbard County, Minnesota. She attended straight River County School till 8th grade then went to Menahga High School.
On February 14, 1960 she married the love of her life, Sydney George Nelson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Paddock Township. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Syd and Kathy made their home on the family farm near Hillview. They lived there until 2014 when they moved to New York Mills.
Kathy loved working outdoors in her flower gardens and on the farm. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She was a generous woman always helping others often putting their needs before her own. Kathy’s favorite holiday was Christmas and she decorated her home to the max with 13+ Christmas trees much to the chagrin of Sydney as his desk was sacrificed for the Christmas village from October to January! She liked to laugh and joke around. She was a kind and caring wife, mother, grandma, great grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
On August 4, 2019 Kathryn passed away in New York Mills after fighting a courage battle with cancer. Preceding Kathryn in death were her parents and sisters: Harriet, and Stella, brothers: Richard, Jesse, Harold, and Daniel.
Kathryn is survived by her loving husband, Sydney Nelson of New York Mills; sons: Bert (Pamela) Nelson and Mark Nelson of New York Mills; daughter Karen (Joe) Townsend of Garner, Iowa; grandchildren: Terrance Nelson, Adrianne (Chad) Gillick, Margaret Nelson, Seth (Tiffany) Townsend, and Jaren Townsend; great-grandchildren: Gabriel and Raphael Gillick; brother Jerry (Marlene) Johnson of White Sulpher Springs, Montana; brothers-in-law: Harold Nelson and Roy Nelson and many nieces and nephews.
