David Limanen

1939-2020

David (Don) Limanen, 80, of Coon Rapids passed away on March 6, 2020.

Don was born on October 20, 1939 to Edward and Hazel Limanen in Sebeka, Minnesota. He attended elementary school in Sebeka. He attended Menahga High School and graduated with the class of 1958.

In October of 1958 he enlisted in the US Air Force. He completed initial military training at San Antonia, Texas and Biloxi, Mississippi. He served as a Morse code intercept operator, copying enemy communications. He served in Turkey, Alaska, and California. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

On September 12, 1964 he married Jeanette L. Ahlman at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morristown, Minnesota. From that union came four children: Michael, Timothy, Karen, and Brian.

In 1963 he began working at Control Data Corporation and remained there for 26 years as an Electrical Technician and Manager. He also worked as a medical transportation driver. His last job was as a desktop printer repair technician which he held for 8 years. After retiring, he was a volunteer at Hope Church in Blaine, Minnesota where he frequently volunteered in their food shelf packaging and distributing food to those in need. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels where he delivered meals to home-bound people. He very much enjoyed his volunteer work. His last act of service was volunteering at Hope Church on the day before going home to be with his Lord. He touched the lives of many people through his volunteering.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents Edward and Hazel, his sisters Beverlee and Elsie, and his brother Richard.

He is survived by his wife Jeanette, sons Michael (Kathleen), Timothy, and Brian (Brooke), daughter Karen Opp (Craig), grandchildren Brittany (Austin), Grace, Bradley, Morgan, Gage, Analise, and Briggs, great grandchildren Xavier and Wade, brother Jack (RuthAnn), brother-in-law Les Stephenson and sisters-in-law Kathy Niska Limanen and Kathy Limanen. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids, MN with a visitation one hour prior to service.
