Ruth Komppa

1942-2020

Memorial Mass for Ruth Komppa age 78, of New York Mills, Minnesota will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Aaron Kuhn officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the memorial mass. Interment will be held at Red Eye Cemetery, Sebeka.

Ruth was born in Minneapolis on January 11, 1942. She grew up with six brothers and sisters and a large extended family.

She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis and attended college at Saint Scholastica in Duluth.

In 1974 she married Andrew Komppa and moved to Sebeka, where she raised her children.

Ruth was devoutly Catholic and shared her faith with many, but most especially with her children.

She had a vivacious, joyful personality and brought kindness and fun everywhere she went. Ruth cared for so many people when they were ill or hurting. She always said “it will be okay” and when she was there, it truly was.

In her retirement, Ruth traveled every year to stay with her daughter in Florida and refused to come home until there was no snow. She liked to say she was the only Minnesotan with a tan in January.

Ruth leaves behind her especially close older sister, Patricia Tuorila of Wadena; her daughter, Kelly of Jacksonville, Florida; her son, Tom of Sebeka; and many special friends and relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ruth Tracy; her husband, Andy; and her siblings: Thomas, Barbara, Mary Therese, John, Michael and Theresa.

Ruth’s greatest legacies are love, laughter and prayer. The memories of her many adventures and the joy she created will be cherished forever.
