Thomas Peterson

1943 – 2021

Thomas “Tom” John Peterson, 77, of Park Rapids, MN passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at the Green Pines Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, MN.

Tom was born April 11, 1943 to Arthur and Bernice (Hokenson) Peterson in Park Rapids. He worked in construction, was a millwright, and was in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over 50 years. He lived the majority of his life in the Park Rapids area although he did enjoy traveling around the U.S. and lived for a time in Lincoln, NE, Glendale, CA and Hutchinson, MN.

Tom enjoyed family time, socializing, attending auctions, bargain hunting, and attending and supporting community events and dinners. He had a big heart for dogs and took joy in fostering elderly German shepherds and huskies in addition to visiting and naming the dogs at the Park Rapids Headwaters Animal Shelter. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 50 years. He enjoyed residing on a lake in northern Minnesota for more than 40 years before transitioning to Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga where he was well taken care of in the most dignified and respectful manner which his family truly appreciates.

Tom is at peace and will always be remembered for his warm smile and caring heart.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Deirdre Arola of Park Rapids; grandsons, Devin and Reilly; sister, Bonnie (Errol) Eder of Ooltewah, TN; brother, Gerald “Jerry” (Shirley) Peterson of Cleburne, TX; other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Park Rapids American Legion on Friday, May 21, 2021 beginning at 11 a.m.with burial to follow at the Henrietta Cemetery at 2 p/m. Until then, letters and cards of condolence can be sent to Cease Family Funeral Home or to his family.
