1940 – 2021
Dennis Jerome Olson, born May 7, 1940, went to join his loving savior on February 28, 2021.
After graduating from Sebeka High School in 1958 Dennis moved to Minneapolis where he worked as a brick layer. There he met Dorothy Jenson. They married in 1961 and their oldest daughter was born in 1962.
In 1964, they moved back to Sebeka and made their family home. They added their son in 1966 and daughter in 1970.
Dennis owned and operated the Gulf/Pro Gas and Service station for many years. Eventually moving the service station business to his home garage in Sebeka where it remained until his retirement in 2015. After Dorothy’s death in 2016, he moved to Big Lake where he lived with his grandson Jesse, wife Callie and their children.
Dennis grew up in a family of eight siblings and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He spent his time fishing in both the summer and winter. He went sucker spearing every spring and enjoyed fishing trips to Lake of the Woods. He loved playing horseshoe, singing and playing cards. In later years, he lived for the winning pinochle hand. Dennis also had a special knack for inventing games to play with his grandchildren. One Old Cat and Where Are You, Jack? were a few favorites.
Dennis just recently moved to the nursing home in Menahga where he lived out the rest of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; father and mother, Joe and Nora Olson (Bengtson); sisters: Ardis (Clarence), Joni (Jerry), Claire (LuAnn). He is survived by his children: Jolene Diamond (Wanda Baity), Bradley Olson, Glenda Olson (Steve Limanen); his grandson Jesse Olson (Callie Olson), grandson Shad Olson (Kim Morrissette); three great-grandchildren Jack, Gwendolyn and Penelope, whom he loved with all his heart; three loving sisters, Eunice (Jack), Margie (Don) and Novella and his brother Russell (Shirley).
As Dennis would say, he’s “off like a herd of turtles.” He was greatly loved and will be truly missed.
