Inga Westerberg

1932 – 2021

Inga Sophia (Makinen) Westerberg, 88, Brooklyn Park, MN was born on October 17, 1932 on the family farm in Wolf Lake (Becker County), MN, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 30, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Lydia (Koskela) Makinen; siblings: Walfrid, Miriam, Enita, Reino and Doris; sons-in-law: Jack Toepper and Vic Jakus; and Donald Westerberg. She is survived by daughters: Jocelyn (Thomas) Anderle, Susan, Arlene Toepper, Wendy, Lori (Gene) Schimmele and Julie Jakus; 15 grandchildren and their spouses and 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Johnson; extended family members and many friends. Inga retired from North Memorial Hospital in 1997 after 20 years of service. Inga loved her family and holiday gatherings, and annual family campouts. She also loved cardinals, fishing, reading, doing word puzzles, gardening, embroidering, crocheting, quilting (she was a member of the church quilting group for more than 20 years), jigsaw puzzles, and polka programs on TV. Because of her Finnish heritage, she had a lot of SISU, and loved her sauna and liked to speak Finnish when she had a chance.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2021, 12-4 p.m., with a short prayer service at 1 p.m., at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7835 Brooklyn Boulevard, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Quilters Group at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 7217 W. Broadway Avenue, Brooklyn Park, MN 55428, or to your favorite charity. Please follow state guidelines – masks are required. Private interment.
