Ione Ellingson

1933 – 2021

Ione Elizabeth (Van Ert) Ellingson passed away quietly in her sleep on Saturday, September 11, 2021. She was born to Louis and Elizabeth Van Ert on December 8, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ione met her love and dancing partner, Clayton, at a dance in St. Paul, MN, and married in 1960.

Ione loved her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for many things. She was an entrepreneur selling Avon products, selling real estate, renting tuxedos, selling flower arrangements and her paintings. She became a justice of the peace as well as the mayor of Menahga. Ione directed many junior high school class plays and helped manage the musical performances of her sons, The Brothers In Harmony. You would find Ione in Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Church at the organ every Sunday and holiday as well as directing the choir. Her home was always open to friends and family and you were always welcome.

Ione was preceded in death by her oldest son, Craig and her husband, Clayton. She is survived by her sons: Tom, Tim, Bruce (Mindy) and Darren; grandchildren: Michael, Patrick (Bonnie), Andrew, Kathryn and Stephen; step-grandchildren: Aron (Jess), William (Jessie), Marey (Andrew) and John (Lauren); great-grandchildren: William, Aurora, Ellinor, Solveig, Hartley, Carmen and Marshall.

Services will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga, MN. Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. the same day. Inurnment services will be held at a later date.
