Delmar Frederick Hacker was born on June 17, 1936 in Canby, MN to Raymond and Lorena (Mein) Hacker. He attended country school near Canby, MN. As a teenage boy, he moved with his family to Nevis, MN. In high school, he was a standout football, basketball, and baseball player. He graduated from the Nevis Public High School in 1954. In November of 1958, Del joined the U.S. Army where he faithfully served his country as a member of the 4th Engineer Battalion, Infantry Division until he was honorably discharged in 1960. After receiving his honorable discharge, Del began working for the Oak Grove Dairy Co. in Park Rapids in a career that spanned over 50 years, bottling and transporting milk.
In June of 1969, Del was united in marriage to Hazel Golberg and they made their home southeast of Park Rapids, MN until 2014, when they left their beautiful country home and moved into town with their daughter, Barbara. Sadly, Del grieved the death of his soulmate Hazel in November of 2017 after 50 years of being very happily married. They loved to dance, garden and enjoyed going out for dinner together. Del continued living with his step-daughter Barb until the time of his death.
Del was a man of faith and attended Faith Baptist Church, now Faithbridge, where he served as an usher and served as a trustee for a number of years. Del loved to be active and enjoyed bowling on the Men’s Bowling League where he won many awards over the years. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and deer hunting. His family describes him as a “kind man” with a hearty laugh and an upbeat spirit. When asked how he was doing, it was always greeted with one word… “Perfect”!
He will be lovingly remembered by his step-daughter Barbara Wheeler-Rasmussen of Park Rapids; his grandchildren: Lisa (John) Wilkes-Barber of Caldwell, ID, Karen (Rob) Nudell of Pelican Rapids, and Russ Wilkes of Riverton, UT; Del’s great grandchildren: Parker (Lisa) Nudell, Natalie Nudell, Taylor and Madison Wilkes; his step-great grandchildren: John R. Barber, Joyann (Derek) Donaldson, Rocky and Chad Calveri. Del will be dearly missed by his friend, Joseph Conley and his beloved dog Buddy.
