Thomas Murphy

1940 – 2021

On our Lord’s Day, Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Fargo Essentia Health Hospital, Thomas K. Murphy went to be with the Lord, whom he served and loved dearly.

Tom was born to Dennis and Dorothy (Mitts) Murphy on April 11, 1940, in Peoria, Illinois. Tom and Glady (Allen) were married on March 6, 1963, at the First Baptist Church in Anoka, Mn. Tom and Glady were very much in love and devoted to each other.

Faith, family, and freedom is the foundation of the Murphy Home. God blessed Tom and Glady with two beautiful daughters, then sons-in-law and triplet grandchildren. Family get-togethers were filled with warmth and much laughter. Vacations with the young grandchildren and family were particularly memorable. Tom and Glady attended church at the United Methodist Church in Menahga, MN.

Tom is survived by his adoring wife, Glady (Allen) Murphy; his daughters: Lisa (Denny Bure) Murphy of Menahga, MN, and Jennifer (Al) Milbradt of Dillworth, MN; his granddaughters: Dusty Rose (Conner) Euing of Moorhead, MN, Desire Morgan Milbradt of Moorhead, MN, and grandson Thomas Allen Milbradt of Sabin, MN. He is also survived by his sisters: Phyllis (Murphy) Gentry of Indianapolis, IN and Kathline Murphy of Sparks, NV and brother Richard Murphy of Garrison, MN.

Tom’s work was never done. He was an entrepreneur extraordinaire, with a resume including, logging, real estate, stump removal, landscaping timber buying and so much more. Tom sat on the Menahga School Board for 12 years, City of Menahga City Council and United Methodist Board. Tom brought a great deal of wisdom and knowledge in every capacity. He served our nation in the Army National Guard.

He loved helping his church, family, friends, and neighbors when the need arose. He enjoyed beautifying yards, riding motorcycle and cruising in his pickup with Glady listening to old country music while holding hands. One of his other “loves” was the first week of deer hunting. Tom and Glady hosted an annual deer hunting party on the farm. Daughter Lisa and granddaughter Dusty Rose, along with all the guys worked hard to keep the deer population in control. They were very successful. There was not a person with whom he didn’t enjoy visiting. Tom and Glady went out several nights a week with friends, enjoying their company while visiting and laughing.

When Glady’s sister, Pat and husband Kenny moved to Menahga, this town lit up! Pat and Kenny were such a blessing to Tom and Glady. Niece RoseMarie and nephew Mike and their families brought joy to Tom and Glady when they came up to visit. Glady’s sister Shirley and husband Ralph and their son, Daniel also moved to Menahga for several years. They were missed when they moved. Tom was a loved member of the Allen family

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Murphy, mother Dorothy Olive (Mitts); brother Danny Murphy; and brother-in-law William Gentry.

The Murphy family thanks each of you for being a part of Tom and Glady’s life.

The Memorial Service for Tom will be held at the Pinewood Church (former Assembly of God) on October 9. Visitation is at 10 a.m., Service at 11 a.m. and a Logger’s Lunch at 12 p.m. Pinewood Church is located 37863 US 71, Menahga, MN.
