Owen Eckman

Owen Scott Eckman of Menahga, age 64, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2021, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND surrounded by his wife and children after a long battle with health issues.
Owen was born to Louis and Naomi Eckman on November 3, 1957, in the Wesley Hospital parking lot of Wadena, MN, in the backseat of a Buick weighing only 2lb. and 12oz. On July 16, 1993

Owen was united in marriage to the love of his life, Michele Ward at the 1st Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN.

Owen spent most of his life in Sebeka. As a child he lived in Akeley and Cass Lake. Owen attended Sebeka Public School and graduated in 1976. In his early years he worked at the Feed Store and Creamery in Sebeka. He hauled milk before becoming the local garbage man for 25 years. He worked for Lakes Area Cooperative before moving on to Brunswick in New York Mills, where he retired on January 1, 2020.

Some of the things Owen enjoyed in life were gardening, cooking (always looking for compliments) and tinkering in his woodshop. He also loved the outdoors and some of his favorite activities were canoeing, snorkeling, hunting, fishing, and camping.

The thing he enjoyed the most was family and friends. He was a dedicated family man and a friend to all.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years Michele and five children: Andy (Stephanie) Eckman, Heather (Justin) Huotari, Justin (Lacey) Eckman, Hayden (Jarissa) Eckman, and Tasha (Garrett) Eckman; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and one on the way; sisters: Marian Hoem, Joyce (Jim) Erickson, Patty (Keith) Frame; brothers: Carrol (Arlene) Eckman, Ronnie Eckman, Jim (Jean) Eckman, Larry (Judee) Eckman; mother-in-law Mary (Tobin) Mcfarland; sister-in-law Christine (Joe) Kempenich, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Naomi Eckman, his father-in-law Martin Ward, his brother Clinton (Shirley) Eckman, his sister-in-law Mary-Ann Eckman, and brother-in-law Gary Hoem.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, with Prayer Service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Assembly of God Church in Wadena, MN.
