1956 – 2021

Verdie Alan Maaninga, 65, of Park Rapids, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Sanford Broadway Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Karvonen Funeral Home in Wadena, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior.

Verdie Alan Maaninga was born on March 27, 1956, in Park Rapids, Minnesota to Evert and Saima (Kangas) Maaninga. He grew up and attended high school in Menahga, Minnesota graduating as part of the class of 1974. He attended tech school and specialized in carpentry. Verdie worked for various silo and grain bin companies. He was very talented as a carpenter and loved making bird houses and tables. He was the person you called when doing a remodel of any sort as he valued helping people. Verdie also enjoyed going deer hunting with his nephews.

Verdie’s passing will be mourned by his daughter: Autumn; his six grandchildren; Jennifer (Zachary), Forrest, Bailey, Jaden (Kara), Connor (Jayden), and Gabrielle; one great-grandson Hudsyn; siblings: Carolyn (Robert) Condon; Alice Kako; Jean Tomperi; and Harlin (Judy) Maaninga; his numerous nieces and nephews; and his brother-in-law: Gordon Kussatz.

Verdie is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother; siblings: Arlene (Edward) Seikula; Irene (Floyd) Ruona; Luella (Harold) Gustafson; and Mavis Kussatz; and his brothers-in-law: Rudolph Kako; and Jerry Tomperi; and son-in-law Garry Crook.
