Charles Ljungren
1926 – 2022
Charles (Charlie) Ljungren, 96, died on Thursday, March 31, 2022 surrounded by his family. A service celebrating Charlie’s life will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 2 p.m., at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Sebeka. A family burial will be held at a later date.
He was born February 4, 1926 to Albert and Viola Ljungren. He attended Sebeka Public School and played football, basketball, and track. His high school career was cut short as he was drafted into the military service. He sacrificed his education to serve his country in World War II. After his Navy honorable discharge as a motor machinist he returned to Moorhead, Minnesota and worked for Lawrence Reck as a beet truck driver. The Reck family took a shine to Charlie and introduced him to their childrens’ Sunday School Teacher. The introduction worked into a marriage of Charlie to Esther Elhard on June 1, 1957.
The two have been a display of true teamwork on their dairy farm west of Sebeka. Their 64 year marriage was full of lots of hard work and yet Charles was a township supervisor and was on the Co-op Store Board. He also loved to hunt and fish. He demonstrated his sense of humor many times with the signs he put at the end of his driveway. He also enjoyed fixing machinery, wood working, gardening, Minnesota Twins and singing.
Charlie and Esther have two children: Susan (Delroy) Jordahl of Moorhead, and Janice (Dwayne) Watt of Bartlesville, OK; three grandchildren: Jessica (Ryan) Schumacher, Jason (Morgan) Jordahl, and Kellen Watt; four great-grandchildren: Hudson, Eva and Emerson Schumacher and Pepper Jordahl; one brother: Donald Ljungren of Hutchinson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Viola Ljungren, sister Lorraine Ljungren, and sister-in-law-Ruth Ljungren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka. Online condolences may be left at www.wevleyfuneralhome.com.
