Laura Savela 1931 – 2023

Laura Savela, age 91, of Sebeka, Minnesota was called to rest at Providence Villa in Sebeka on February 8, 2023 surrounded by family. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Laestadian Lutheran Church of Menahga, Minnesota with Pastor John Blomquist officiating. Pallbearers will be Levi Savela, Paul Savela, Andy Hensel, Rex Rintamaki, John Savela, and Alex Hensel. Laura will be laid to rest at Hay Creek Cemetery, Sebeka, Minnesota.
Laura was born on March 14, 1931, to Lewis and Wilma Lindula (Mattson) in Blowers township.
Laura went to country school through 8th grade and continued through 10th grade in Sebeka Public School. Laura was united in marriage to Harley on April 30, 1949 in Runeberg. Eight children were blessed to this union.
Laura and Harley lived in Sebeka, and moved to Olympia, WA where Harley was stationed in the Army, then eventually moved back to the Sebeka area.
Laura had various jobs throughout the years including, a waitress, cook and Home Health Aide of which she retired from in 1995.
Laura was an active member of the Laestadian Lutheran Church of Menahga, MN. She lived according to her faith and it was the most important aspect of her life.
Laura enjoyed tole painting, gardening, playing ball with her children and grandchildren and visiting with family and friends.
Laura is survived by her children: Lucy (Roger) Karvonen of Wolf Lake, Jane Kosola of Menahga, Douglas of Sebeka, Lorna Rintamaki of Ispeming, MI, Curtis (Doreen) of Sebeka, Natalie Hensel of Sebeka, and Jayson (Amy) of Sebeka; sister-in-law Shirley Savela, many nieces and nephews along with 43 grandchildren,85 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and a host of brothers and sisters in faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harley (1989), an infant son, her parents, her brothers: Harvey, Arvid, Everett, Wilbert, Melvin and John; sisters: Lyla, Lillian and Lorraine; grandsons David and Shannon Savela; sons-in-law: Donald Kosola, Carl Rintamaki and Joseph Hensel and daughter-in-law Karen Savela.
