Anthony Stone 1941 – 2023
Anthony Allen Stone, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023 in hospice care. Anthony was born December 5, 1941, in Park Rapids, MN to Herbert and Irene (Robertson) Stone. He grew up in Menahga, MN and graduated from Menahga High School in 1958.
After high school, Tony enlisted in the US Army and served within the US as well as in Germany. After his discharge, he moved to Minneapolis, where he met, and then married, Dianne Ripley. They made their home in South Minneapolis for 57 years.
Tony was an accomplished bowler, participating in many leagues and tournaments. Among his accomplishments was a 299 game and at least one ‘perfect’ 300 game. He enjoyed bowling with, and teaching, his children – watching them (and his grandchildren) grow to be bowlers as well.
Throughout the years Tony enjoyed watching his children play sports, coaching some softball and baseball teams along the way. Grandchildren brought another wave of sporting events to attend. He loved to instruct and give pointers to kids playing ball or games in the yard.
Anthony is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dianne; children: Leah (Mark) Wagner, Barry (Sheila) Stone, and Christopher Stone; grandchildren: Anthony (Jessica) Stone II, Amanda (Ben) Shultz, Laura (Steven) Hecksel, Trevor Stone, Neal Wagner, and Marley Stone; great-grandchildren: Mathias, Elliana, and Derek (born 7/11/23); siblings: Greg (Betty) Stone, Tom (Lisa Underhill) Stone, Gerald Stone, and Renee (Jimmy Schommer) Bobick; siblings-in-law: Dolly Carstensen, Lyman Ripley, and Darwin (Pat) Ripley; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Tony was a long-time member of the Church of St. Helena in South Minneapolis. He sold pull-tabs for many years at the church’s Autumn Daze Festival.
A funeral Mass will be held at the church on August 11, 2023 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the church.8-9pd
