Teisha Keranen 2002 – 2023

Teisha (Tia) Keranen, 21, Sandstone, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 11, 2023, in St. Peter, Minnesota. Tia was born May 7, 2002, in Columbia, Missouri. She was joyfully adopted, along with her twin sister Ana, into the Keranen family on March 6, 2003. She will forever be their beloved daughter and sister.
Tia was a bright, energetic kid and loved playing with her siblings and exploring the family hobby farm near Bruno. She attended elementary school in Finlayson.
In 2010, she moved with her family to their home near Sandstone. This brought the opportunity for many new adventures. She attended East Central High School through 2019.
Until March 2019, Tia was taking college classes as a high school sophomore. She was active in her church, and her faith was very important to her. She was a popular babysitter. She worked at Subway and as a home health aide for an elderly couple who adored her. She planned to be a pediatric or geriatric nurse. She had a heart for vulnerable people and a lot of common sense. She was organized, funny, and insightful. She was a good friend. She was determined and strong-willed. She was creative and athletic. She was perceptive and willing to apologize. Sometimes she drove us crazy. She was so loved.
In her free time, Tia had a passion for basketball and baking. She baked homemade bread, and our recipe books are filled with her handwritten notes. She hoped to own a horse someday and loved her bunny, Alex, her dog, Marcie, and her numerous barn kitties. Most of all, she couldn’t wait to be a mom, and we imagine that she would have been a wonderful one. Her grandparents pictured her taking care of them when they were old. She had many great dreams for her future.
Throughout her life, Tia had a heart for others and saw the value in them, even as she struggled so mightily to believe these same things about herself. The last 4 ½ years brought many heartaches and extended time away from her family and friends. In these times, she would express her sadness, but also her belief that she was loved and forgiven by her Creator. She knew what it was like to battle for her faith.
In the midst of our brokenness, we are certain of this: God had His loving hand on Tia throughout her whole life. He never abandoned her, and He is worthy of our trust.
Tia was preceded in death by her birth mother Marilyn and other biological family members.
Tia is survived by her parents, Luke and Heidi; her siblings: Wesley (Jenna), Ana, Jemi, Crosby, and Ramsey; grandparents: John and Sharon Keranen of Menahga, MN, and Maury and Nancy Peterson of Sandstone, MN; aunts and uncles: Charles and Katrin of Des Moines, IA, Michael and Lissa of Caledonia, MN, and Steve and Anne of St. Paul, MN; and her cousins and friends.
A memorial service is planned for Tia at 3pm on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the Memorial Drive Bible Fellowship Church, located at 67331 State Highway 23, Askov, MN. Visitation will begin at 2 pm and continue until the service starts. A luncheon will be served following the service.
