Theodore Wold 1940 – 2023

Theodore “Ted” Abel Wold, 83, of Park Rapids, MN died on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.
Ted Wold was born August 27, 1940 in Marshall, MN to Clarence and Marie (Abel) Wold. He was raised in Marshall and graduated with the class of 1958. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1961 with a degree in Mortuary Science. On June 2, 1962 he married Karen Albrecht in Spring Lake Park, MN. They made their home in Appleton, MN where they raised their family. In Appleton, Ted and Karen owned and operated multiple businesses, including Appleton Furniture and Funeral Home. In 1982, Ted and Karen moved to the family cabin on Lake Belle Taine in Nevis, MN, where he started a radio advertising business and developed the market for the Cellular 2000 cell phone franchise.
Ted was active at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset and worked at Cease Funeral Home during his retirement years.
Ted is survived by his wife, Karen, Nevis; four children: Deborah (Nick) Leal, Minong, WI, Peter (Lynette) Wold, Shakopee, Nancy (Brad) Wadsten, Battle Lake, and Timothy (Kathy) Wold, Park Rapids; 11 grandchildren: Nicholas Leal, Shawna (Josh) Grover, Michael Wold, Eric (Meredith) Wadsten, Matthew (Allie) Wadsten, Michael (Catherine) Wadsten, Laura Wadsten, Teddy Wadsten, Christopher Strehlow, Sarah Strehlow and Casey Wold; nine great grandchildren: Peter, Joleen and Bridget Grover, Elizabeth, Samuel and Owen Wadsten, Ella, Hans and Wren Wadsten.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marie Wold; brothers, Dean and Richard.
Ted was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed music and he kept a large vinyl record collection of his favorite artists. He loved his garage and spent hours reclaiming and repairing things so they didn’t need to be thrown out. Ted enjoyed being outdoors, hunting with his friends, kids and grandkids (especially at the deer shack). Sharing stories with people whether through work or pleasure was one of his greatest pleasures, and if possible, you better plan for dinner as he loved sharing food with others, which was something he learned from his mother.
Grandkids were his special gift and he loved to share their accomplishments with others.
Ted will be missed by all who knew him, so raise a toast to his memory as he fondly remembers all of you.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 1:00 PM at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, MN with a light lunch and refreshments served following the service. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cease Family Funeral Home in Park Rapids and also for 1 hour prior to the memorial service at the church.
