Agnes Goerges 1931 – 2023

Agnes Aileen Goerges, 92, of Pequot Lakes, died on Saturday, December 2, 2023, peacefully at Golden Horizons in Crosslake. Agnes was born April 25, 1931, in Wadena County, daughter of Edward and Tillie (Kinnunen) Cary. After graduating from Menahga High School, she moved to St. Paul where she met and married Josef Goerges on June 6, 1953. They were blessed with eight children. In 1972 Joe and Agnes moved north to run Haze Haven Resort on Big Pelican Lake. In 1981 they founded Pequot Tool and Manufacturing. From the very beginning they established a foundation of giving and supporting many local charities. As the company grew it was moved north to Jenkins where it is still operated by the family.
Agnes retired from the company in 2001. In retirement she and Joe did some traveling and enjoyed an extensive trip to Finland where she was able to visit many cousins and other relatives. Agnes was an avid bowler and loved to play cards. She served as Pelican Township treasurer and election judge for over 12 years. She loved to spend time outdoors and in her garden. Agnes was dedicated to her family and loved to feed them. We will miss her delicious homemade bread, wonderful soups, and wild rice hot dish.
