Joseph Hallermann 1936 – 2024

The memorial service celebrating the life of Joe Hallermann of Wadena will be held at 2 p.m on Monday, January 22, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Nate Loer presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
Joseph died January 9, 2024, at St Williams Living Center, Parkers Prairie, MN under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice.
Joseph Fred Hallermann, Jr. was born to Joseph Sr and Elizabeth (Herzog) Hallermann on January 27, 1936, at Melrose MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended Melrose Public Schools graduating with the class of 1954. After high school he married Teresa Overman of Melrose. Two sons, Robert and Michael were born to this union. They later divorced. Joe graduated from St. Cloud Beauty College and pursued a career in Cosmetology eventually leading him to Wadena Area Technical College where he taught 30 years of cosmetology classes. He later graduated from Bemidji State University with a bachelor’s degree in business education. In 1971 he met Lois Kopponen, a student at Wadena Tech School and they were married. They had one son, Brian. After retirement from teaching, Joe cut hair at Lorna’s Beauty Shop and worked as an escort at Tri-County Hospital. In retirement he enjoyed his morning and afternoon coffee clubs where they solved all the world problems. Joe was a member of the Wadena Elks Club and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Surviving Joe are his devoted wife, Lois of Wadena; son, Brian (Morgan) Hallermann of Inver Grove Heights; grandsons: Hunter and Camden Hallermann; brothers-in-law: James Kopponen, Richard Baso, Donald Schlueter, and Blayne Ferley; sisters-in-law: Sandra Kopponen, Judith Schluter, Sandra Baso, Lavern Hallermann, along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Joe in death are his parents, Joseph Sr and Elizabeth Hallermann; sons Robert Hallermann and Michael Hallermann; sister, Marion Hallermann; eight brothers: Henry, Boniface, Ervin, Alfred, Wilfred, Donald, Gerald and Virgil, sisters-in-law, Rosealie Kopponen, Marian, Marilyn, Marcella, Helen, Kathy, and Bernadette Hallermann, Betty Theis and Linda Ferley; and brother-in-law, Charles Greenwaldt.
A private burial will be at a later date in Wadena Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Wadena Cemetery for perpetual care.
