Eric Heldt 1982 – 2024

Eric was known as an artist, craftsman, hunter, fisherman, lifelong student, jokester, philosopher, and daredevil by friends and family.
Eric Vaughn Heldt was born December 30, 1982 in Thief River Falls, MN to Lyle Heldt and Melanie “Jeri” (Spalding) Heldt. He died December 29, 2023 in St. Cloud, MN.
Eric is survived by his parents and sisters: Andrea (Heldt) and Matt Coates, niece Isla and nephew Rowan Coates; Jennifer (Heldt) Pyper. He is preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides and brother-in-law, Andrew Pyper.
Eric grew up in Thief River Falls, MN and Aberdeen, SD before moving to Fargo, ND, where he attended elementary (Horace Mann) and middle school (Ben Franklin and Oak Grove). He went to Fargo North High School and graduated from Woodrow Wilson. In 2008, he joined the ND Army National Guard and spent a year in Kosovo in 2009. He was honorably discharged in 2013. For the next several years, he lived in Fargo, Menahga, Sauk Centre, and St. Cloud. He received degrees in Culinary Arts and Carpentry from St. Cloud Technical Community College and was presently enrolled in the Auto Body Repair program there.
Eric was a creative and artistic soul. He loved carving and woodworking. Through his business, ‘Moonz & Starz’, he made many things, including intricately carved wooden moons depicting everything from Trees of Life to The Beatles silhouette. He sold a lot and donated many. Eric loved to draw. He enjoyed music and sharing it with others. He was very generous and always tried to help his friends.
Eric lived for a time at the Eagle’s Healing Nest in Sauk Centre, where a Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 12-3 p.m. To support Veterans like Eric, consider donating to: eagleshealingnest.org/donate.
